Inspector - Instructor

Major David Slack

Born on October 30th 1968, in Detroit Michigan third of three children (Pamela and Daniel) to Wilford K. Slack and Marsha Rose.  Now married to the former Mary Sue Zant with three children, Trevor (10), Kaylie (7), and Mason (5).

Officer Candidate Slack attended Platoon Leaders Class Aviation option split coarse at Quantico Virginia the summers of 1988 and 1990.  Upon graduation from Western Michigan University in 1991 with a BS in Engineering Technology and Operations, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and completed The Basic School in April of 1992.  2nd Lieutenant Slack was assigned a “stash” position awaiting flight school as the Assistant Officer Selection Officer at Michigan State University.  2nd Lieutenant Slack was the transferred to MATSG Pensacola for flight training.  1st Lieutenant Slack was designated a Naval Aviator in the top 10% of his class in June of 1994. 

Following flight school 1st Lieutenant Slack was assigned as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at the University of Michigan until a Replacement Aircrew training position was open in Tustin California.  1st Lieutenant Slack was qualified as a Helicopter 2nd Pilot in February of 1995 and was ordered to HMH-366 (Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron) in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii.  At HMH-366 Captain Slack filled many positions including Embarkation Officer, Training Officer, Flight Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Logistics Department Head.  At HMH-366 he gained flight qualifications as Helicopter Aircraft Commander, Section Leader, and post maintenance Functional Check Pilot.

After his tour at HMH-366 Captain Slack was assigned as the Officer Selection Officer for northern Ohio in 1998.  In this position he and his staff received the Commandants Eagle Globe and Anchor Award for outstanding station in quality recruiting and retention for every year Captain Slack was responsible for mission attainment.

Upon completing his active duty requirement in 2000, Captain Slack received an honorable discharge and took a position as an airline pilot with Independence Airline.  Here he progressed from a First Officer, to Captain and Check Airman on the Jetstream 4100, and Captain on the Fairchild Regional Jet.

Captain Slack took a reserve IMA position as a Watch Officer at the Marine Corps Command Center adjacent to the Pentagon in 2002.  After one year on station his civilian job transferred him to Cincinnati where he was promoted to Major and hired as the Peace Wartime Support Team Officer In Charge (PWST) for Communications Company (-).  He was mobilized as the site commander in Cincinnati then was extended on active duty to serve as the site commander and Inspector-Instructor for Military Police Company C, Dayton Ohio.

Major Slack’s awards include 4 Certificates of Commendation, Marine Corps Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, 2 Commandants Eagle Globe and Anchor Recruiting Awards, Division Bronze Pistol, and the Smith Trophy for competitive marksmanship.

I - I First Sergeant

1st Sgt. Gomez

First Sergeant Gomez joined the Marine Corps in March of 1985 and attended Basic Training at Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot Pariris Island, South Carolina.  After completion of Boot Camp, he reported to Camp Gieger, North Carolina for Motor Vehicle Operators course.  Upon graduating he was assigned to 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) where he attended Airborn School at Fort Benning Georgia.

In October of 1987-89, he reported to 7th Communications Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group Okinawa, Japan for duty.  During this time he was promoted to Corporal and served as a squad leader and Company training NCO.   

In February of 1989 First Sergeant Gomez was transferred to 7th Motor Transport Battalion Camp Pendleton, California.  In August of 1990, he deployed with the unit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or operation Desert Shield/Storm and was attached to 3rd Battalion 12th Marines as part of CSSD 10, DSG-1 and awarded the Combat Action Ribbon for his service during the war and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

After returning from Desert Storm, First Sergeant Gomez was selected for duty as driver for the Commanding General of the First Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton California from 1991 to 1992. 

First Sergeant Gomez then reported to Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Virginia where he was assigned as a Heavy section leader and Platoon Sergeant from 1992 to 1995.

In 1995 First Sergeant Gomez requested orders to Drill Instructor School at MCRD, Parrris Island, South Carolina.  After successfully completing school he was assigned to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Company “A” where he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Series Chief Drill Instructor from 1995 to 1997 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant. 

In 1997, First Sergeant Gomez was transferred to Third Marine Division Okinawa, Japan for duty where he served as Regimental Motor Transport Chief and filled in as S-4 Chief.

In November 2000, First Sergeant Gomez was transferred to MWSS 272, New River Air Station for duty as the Air Field Operations Chief and redeployed with the unit to OIF and was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. 

In February of 2005 First Sergeant reported to Charlie Company, Military Police Dayton, Ohio where he is currently the Inspector Instructor staff First Sergeant.   

First Sergeant Gomez’s personal awards include the Navy Marine Corps Achievement medal with four gold stars fifth award and the Combat action medal.
