PWST stands for Peacetime Wartime Support Team. A PWST is a small, special unit that is responsible for a set of diverse tasks including community outreach, family assistance, reserve site support, crisis assistance to civil authorities, and mobilization of Marines.
it is the responsibility of the PWST to find new ways to win new supporters for the Marine Corps. Since community outreach is the primary focus during peacetime, it is imperative that the members of the PWST play a regular role in the community, maintaining good rapport with the community civic and political leaders, including leaders from the police and fire departments.
the priority shifts from public awareness and promotion of the Marine Corps to family assistance, site management, casualty assistance, funeral details, and the mobilization itself (post mobilization support to families and ensuring effective processing of mobilized manpower). Generally, the PWST has the responsibility of mustering the IRR Marines but in this case, the I-I in Cincinnati is in charge of the muster.
